Barncats___________________________Serious Analog at Tuffy's Barn

I had a chance to sit in at Tuffy's recently, as bassist for The Penetrators, who arrived with guest guitarist Mark Doyle in tow. Great session! Jim, Curt, and I set up some mics, and then it was magic time. Five straight hours of very focused performance. It wasn't long before we were "in the zone", as the athletes say, very much at one with the music . The tunes were still ringing in our heads hours after we'd left the room; as we stepped out into the late afternoon sun, it was as if we were entering a different world.

I mention this because, gearhead that I am, once we started playing I gave no further thought to microphones, tape recorders, tubes, compression, levels, patches, track assignments, or any of the other concerns that scroll through my head when I'm tracking my own sessions. It was all about the music. Unbelievably liberating. And almost impossible to achieve outside a professional recording studio staffed by skilled engineers. Jim has put together a terrific staff that can help anyone get back to the music. Rock on,fellow Barncats; you make a big difference!
